George Keppler Pop-Out Barber Dime Antique Cufflinks
Unique antique repousse or “pop-out”
cufflinks are made from U.S. Barber dime coins set on a rigid bean-backed link. The process was patented by two men,
a W.A. Malilet of New Jersey in 1903 and again by George Kepler in 1904, a New Yorker of German descent. The process
pushes the face on the coin creating a three dimentional face. These cufflinks use 1911 coins which is the right time
frame for cufflinks with the bean back finding. The cufflinks are unmarked but are silver dimes set on a gold colored
metal finding. One of the faces on the pair is well defined but the other has a smoothed-over nose and mouth, a trait
often seen in pop-out coin jewelry. In good condition, they are each ¾ inch in diameter.
