Gilded Brass Edwardian Purple Drop Pendant Necklace
A wonderful pendant necklace from the Edwardian period features purple glass stones in a gilded
brass setting. A gold-tone chain holds an oval setting that is decorated with some fine granulation much like that seen
in Victorian jewelry. On oval cut glass stone is the center feature with an elongated purple cut glass drop hanging
from the bottom. The setting is small and delicate which helps to accent the stones. The necklace and chain measure
15” long. The drop measures 1 1/8” long. All are in good condition with a very tiny chip near the
end of the drop. The oval stone looks to be a replacement but matches well with the drop. Though first believed
to be Victorian, it's style and materials make it more likely to be circa 1905 – 1910, with a style between the delicate
Edwardian period and the early 1920s Art Deco period that followed. Full view:
