Mexican Mixed Metals Monkey Pin
Great Mexican silver monkey pin features the Mayan symbol of the monkey used in the Mayan calendar. This piece
is manufactured by hand and made with sterling silver, copper and bits of turquoise for accent. The pin is crafted with
the figure finely cut and very alive as he practically leaps off the pin in an excited dance. Mexican silversmiths love
to depict these ancient Mayan figures and this one is exceptional. The stamp on the back of the pin reads “Mexico
– DL PLATA 925 RH” and has an Eagle #1 stamp, the earliest of the Eagle stamping system that was used between
1948 and 1980 and was crafted by a silversmith with the initials RH. Items with this stamp were made in the city of
Taxco. A fine example of Mexican inlay silver work, the piece measures 5/8” in diameter and is in excellent condition.
