Rex Fifth Avenue Vintage Leather Compact
This is an exceptional compact made with a tooled leather exterior. The top has a pretty
floral design while the back is plain leather. The compact is new old stock and has never been used. It is the
flapjack size, a whopping 4 1/2" in diameter that is typical of the 1940s. The original cardboard box is included
that identifies it as "Rex Fifth Avenue". Inside the compact the mirror has some silvering speckles and a
small dark area by the edge. The mirror is not crystal clear but you can still see yourself easily and the condition
is still very good. The big powder puff is unused and in excellent condition with a satin-like band sporting the Rex
lable on it for easy lifting. The compact has a sifter inside in excellent unused condition. There are a few very
light spots of wear on the underside of the leather as can be seen in the photos. There is an imprint in the metal rim
stamped with the words "Made in U.S.A. Pat.2163429" that dates the patent of the rim to 1939. The compact
clasp closes with a secure "snap" sound. A unique and delicious "chocolate" leather collectible
compact!
