Compacts - Richard Hudnut - DuBarry Rolled Gold Compact - SOLD!
This is one of the most beautiful compacts I have ever seen. From the Art Deco
1920s period, the outside of this compact is made of rolled gold with an engraving of beautiful symmetrical scrollwork atop
a softly stippled line background. This compact holds two reservoirs, one for powder and another for rouge. The
powder and rouge have not been used. The powder side of the compact is filled with a dome shaped cake of pure white
solid powder and includes an unused swans down powder puff with a tiny hot-pink colored satin tab. The compact closes
on this side and opens on the underside to reveal the rouge comparment. On the rim of the rouge compartment is the makers
mark "DuBarry - Richard Hudnut - Pat'd Apr 4, '22". The mirrors on both sides are in excellent condition with
no cracks or clouding. The outer rim is stamped with the words "Rolled Gold-Filled". This fantastic
collectors item is 2 1/2" in diameter and is 3/4" thick. The back of the compact cover is exactly the same
as the front with the exception of the small plain rectangle in the center of the front cover. The DuBarry line
of cosmetics was the first American line of cosmetics introduced in 1903 by Richard Hudnut and represents a top quality line
of compacts and perfume items. The Richard Hudnut trademark was created in 1880 and has existed for over 100 years.
Its two main locations are in New York and Paris. SORRY. THIS ITEM HAS ALREADY BEEN SOLD!
