Pot Metal Amethyst Brooch
From the 1930's this pot metal brooch is reminiscent of Art Nouveau jewelry in its
theme of graceful exotic flowers and curves. The stone is a clear, faceted amethyst colored and open-backed glass stone
which is bezel set. Four small amethyst glass chatons are hand set in prong settings. The pot metal is molded
with pierced openings that imitate filigree work. There is a twisted rope border around the edges that are interrupted
by the foliage. Although this is a more crude execution of fine filigree work, pot metal brooches with this detail are
becoming rare and do have a complex beauty not seen in later metal work. In excellent condition, it measures 2"
wide and 1 1/8" tall
