Barbaric Fringe Choker Necklace
This 1930s necklace is from a time when jewelry became very playful and the barbaric
influence was definitely in style thanks to celebrities such as Josephine Baker who popularized tribal jewelry and costumes.
This choker has teal and peach enameling over pliable metal in the shape of leaves. Each leaf hangs from a bookchain
choker. The entire piece is connected by a large type of spring ring clasp without the thumb grip which is characteristic
of earlier jewelry. There is some wear to the enamel on some of the leaves, yet the entire necklace is in remarkable
condition with most of the enameling intact. Measures 15 1/2" long with each dangling leaf measuring nearly 2"
